What is the "Tampon Tax?"
The "tampon tax" refers to the sales tax that is placed on feminine hygiene products such as tampons, pads, cups, and liners. The tampon tax is one of the leading causes of period poverty and the lack of access to these products as many aren't able to pay these prices. Currently, more than 30 states in the U.S. still have a tampon tax and these taxes can vary depending on the state's tax code.

While this sales tax may not seem like a big deal, it is still an added expense placed onto who menstruate and so the tax disproportionately affects us. Additionally, while this might seem like a small price to pay, with the monthly visit from Aunt Flow, this tax adds up over a lifetime.
